Deleting your Koven account
How to delete your account, what is removed, what is kept and why, and how long it takes. You do not need to email anybody.
How to delete your account
Open Koven, go to Settings, then Your account, then Delete your account. The screen lists exactly what goes and what stays, and asks you to type DELETE to confirm. It happens straight away and there is nothing to undo.
If you cannot get into the app, email support@kovengames.com from the address on the account and we will do it for you. We will ask you to confirm in writing, because a deletion request we act on without checking is a way for somebody else to delete your account.
What is removed
All of this goes immediately, and none of it can be recovered.
- Your profile: your display name, your avatar, your sign in identity and the email address it carried.
- Every deck you have made, whether it was private, shared by code or published to the community library, and every item inside them.
- Any pictures you uploaded with a deck.
- Your Koven+ record, which is our copy of what you are entitled to.
- Your notification settings, your registered devices and your invitation history.
What is kept, and why
Two things survive, and they survive for the same reason: they are records about somebody other than you, or about a decision somebody else made. Neither carries your name once your account is gone.
- Reports you filed about another person or another deck. A report is evidence about somebody else, and it is not yours to withdraw. The reporter is unlinked, so it stops being attributable to you.
- Moderation decisions taken about your account or your decks. An audit trail that the subject of it can erase is not an audit trail. The record stays, without your name on it.
Your subscription
Deleting your Koven account does not cancel a subscription. Subscriptions are billed by Apple or Google and only they can cancel one, so cancel it in the App Store or Google Play first. Otherwise you will keep being charged for an account that no longer exists, and we would rather you knew that before than after.
If you have never signed in
Then there is no account to delete. A guest plays with a name typed on the device and nothing on our servers is tied to them. Deleting the app removes everything a guest ever had.
How long it takes
The deletion itself is immediate. Backups are kept for thirty days, so a copy of the deleted data can exist in a backup for up to that long, after which it is gone from those too. Nothing is restored from a backup except to recover from a failure of ours.
